Brief History

The College of Communication started out as the Department of Mass Communication under the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The official establishment date of the Department of Mass Communication was in 1979, precisely four years after the New Era University was founded. At that time, the first building that housed the department under the CAS was the old College of Evangelical Ministry building.

The Department flourished as years went by as more and more students enrolled, eager to learn and express their knowledge and passion regarding on the skills to be polished in the Program. As expectations were set higher each year, the Department aimed to create a better curriculum to uplift students’ learning experience to its full potential and to continually offer everything for glory to His Name.

The Department became a College last July 17, 2014, by the Church Administration, which coincided with the Church’s celebration of its centennial year. Along with the new freshmen enrolled in the same year, a new curriculum has also been offered (formed).

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills in the theory and practice of communication applicable in various professions and contexts, with a focus on the media professions.

In 2018, with the initiative of the late Dean, Prof. Margele Andres, the college offered new programs - the Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. With the implementation of these two (2) new programs, BA Communication has shifted towards a more diverse but focused curriculum, while Broadcasting and Journalism focuses on media studies.

Currently, the College of Communication (finally) has its own buildings and accreditation participation, and many more achievements to come over the years.
